Too busy, too little time, and a tendency toward consumerism have created a new lifestyle that has unconsciously led us to less physical activity and consumption of low-value foods, making it difficult to make a change!

In this blog, we intend to introduce you to the properties of Tahini, a sesame-based product. The ease of consumption of this healthy and nutritious product can make it a competitor to readily available and low-value foods. In the following, we will introduce the properties and nutritional value of Tahini and discuss its impact on health.

What is Tahini?

Tahini can be recognized as one of the popular sesame products. This product, which is also known as tahini, tahina, tahini, and sesame paste, is an oily liquid obtained from ground sesame seeds (peeled and roasted). Tahini is a pure sesame product that is obtained without adding or removing any sesame compounds. For this reason, Tahini is the closest sesame product to sesame seeds in terms of properties. In addition, oxalic acid, which is an anti-nutritional compound, is also reduced in the peeling process.

Tahini is most widely used in Asian and Mediterranean countries; hummus and baba ghanoush are two popular examples of appetizers that are based on Tahini. In Iran, combining Tahini with various juices, including date juice and grape juice, is considered a quick breakfast and healthy snack.

What are the nutritional properties of tahini?

Tahini, like its main base, sesame seeds, is rich in nutrients. For example, vitamins B and E in Tahini provide part of the body’s daily needs. About 80 percent of the fat in this sesame product is unsaturated fatty acids, which significantly reduce bad cholesterol, blood pressure, and the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

Antioxidant properties are one of the most important and well-known properties of sesame and, of course, Tahini. The antioxidants in Tahini prevent the activity of free radicals and greatly reduce the incidence of chronic diseases such as cancer.

The protein in Tahini is also rich in essential amino acids. Other nutritional properties of Tahini include the presence of calcium, phosphorus, potassium, and iron. Nutritionists recommend including this nutritious seed and sesame products in general in the daily diet due to the special nutritional and therapeutic benefits of sesame.

As we said earlier, today’s lifestyle has led tastes towards consuming junk food, but Oghab Halva has always tried to show its concern for healthy eating habits by producing sesame products in different types and to suit different tastes.
