In previous blogs, we have talked about the properties of various sesame products many times, but in this blog, we intend to discuss the properties and benefits of sesame and tahini in more detail, and then introduce you to another sesame product called sesame tahini halva.
Sesame Properties
As you know, sesame is one of the oldest edible seeds discovered by humans and has numerous edible and therapeutic properties.
Without a doubt, the presence of antioxidant compounds is one of the most prominent properties of sesame. Due to the presence of sesamin and sesamulin (two examples of antioxidants found in sesame), sesame is considered a good food for fighting free radical activity. Free radicals cause the destruction of other cells; this is why consuming sesame is recommended to prevent chronic diseases, including types of cancer.
The abundance of unsaturated fatty acids in sesame has made this small seed one of the richest sources of essential fatty acids for the body, which is why sesame can be a good choice for people with blood pressure, cholesterol, and heart disease in general.
Properties of tahini
Tahini is another sesame product and an oily liquid obtained from ground sesame seeds (peeled and roasted). Tahini is one of the purest sesame products and, compared to other sesame products, is the most similar product to sesame in terms of properties.
In addition to all the benefits that Tahini shares with sesame, the abundance of unsaturated fatty acids is another property that this product shares with sesame. Due to the presence of essential fatty acids, consuming Tahini is useful for preventing cardiovascular diseases.
Another benefit of consuming Tahini and adding it to your diet is obtaining a rich source of vitamin E. Vitamin E in Tahini strengthens the body’s immune system, significantly reduces the aging process of the skin, and prevents the formation of wrinkles. Niacin and folic acid are other compounds found in sesame seeds and, consequently, Tahini and other sesame products.
